A/Prof Matthew Roberts is a Brisbane-based specialist urological surgeon with expertise in robotic surgery, urologic oncology and minimally invasive procedures. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in Urology and holds a PhD in prostate cancer research from The University of Queensland, where he now serves as an Associate Professor and research group leader.

 

Dr Roberts completed advanced fellowship training in robotic and endourological surgery at Nepean Hospital, one of Australia’s highest-volume robotic programs. He provides comprehensive care across prostate, kidney and bladder conditions, with particular expertise in robotic prostate and kidney cancer surgery, HoLEP for enlarged prostate, precision prostate biopsy and laser treatment of kidney stones. He is certified by the European Robotic Urology Section (ERUS) and is actively involved in mentoring other surgeons in robotic and laser techniques.

 

He practices at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) and STARS, where he has held leadership roles including Acting Director of Urology and Deputy Clinical Director of Surgery. His academic work is internationally recognised, with more than 170 publications and multiple research awards, including the 2024 BJUI Global Prize.
