For surgeons
Bringing patients and surgeons together
Our mission is to build a national network of AIRS-accredited robotic surgeons, trained to the highest standards, and to connect them with patients through an Australia-wide directory.

Step 01
AIRS-accredited training
The AIRS team is committed to developing patient-centred, industry-leading training pathways for qualified surgeons to upskill in robotic surgery. Our goal is to support the next generation of robotic surgeons to deliver safe, high-quality care and excellent outcomes for their patients.
Step 02
Find-A-Surgeon Directory
The AIRS Find-A-Surgeon Directory is Australia’s largest independent listing of highly trained robotic surgeons. It’s a one-stop resource for individuals seeking a robotic surgeon for themselves or a loved one. Only surgeons who meet AIRS training standards are included, helping patients feel confident they’re choosing from leaders in the field.
Why should I upskill in robotic surgery?
Robotic surgery is one of the fastest-growing areas in Australian healthcare. There are now more than 160 robotic surgical platforms in use across Australasia, with rapid expansion in both public and private hospitals. In recent years, several new systems have entered the market, including Hugo (Medtronic) and Versius (CMR Surgical), approved for use by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) in 2021 and 2020, respectively.
Demand for robotic procedures continues to grow. Data from Device Technologies (the distributor of the da Vinci system) reported a 12% increase in procedures performed on the da Vinci platform between 2021 and 2022 across Australia and New Zealand alone.
Why is an independent training pathway needed?
There is currently no standardised or nationally recognised training pathway for robotic surgeons in Australia. At present, most training is delivered and funded by robotic platform providers, with limited independent alternatives available.
The 2023 Final Report of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons’ Robot-Assisted Surgery Working Party highlighted concerns that industry-funded training may create perceived or actual conflicts of interest.
At AIRS, we believe that the growth of a patient-centred, high-quality robotic surgery landscape requires access to training that is developed independently, with transparent standards and a focus on safe care and excellent outcomes for patients.
Why should I be listed in the directory?
The AIRS Find-A-Surgeon Directory is Australia’s largest independent listing of highly trained robotic surgeons. It provides a simple way for patients, families, and referrers to locate a surgeon with verified training and experience in robotic surgery.
Only surgeons who have met AIRS accreditation standards are included, offering reassurance that those listed have undergone recognised, high-quality training in robotic surgical practice.
